SIMPLY Deirdre is Deirdre Cunningham, born and raised in Jackson, MS to a singing deacon father, Robert Smith, and a missionary mother, Mary Jordan.
The third of four children, Deirdre's God-given musical abilities manifested early in her childhood; so, her mother started her musical development with piano lessons when she was 10 years old. Although that wasn't quite the activity that Deirdre necessarily dreamed of participating in at the time, she values those lessons today that she dreaded to attend back then! "Those lessons are the foundation to who I have become in the music industry today! It is rare that you find recording artist who can actually read, sing and play music!"
Deirdre sang in her church's choir from her youth and inspired many through the songs she lead. The more she sang, the more she loved to sing and tried to make her listeners feel the way she did while singing. Her love took her through high school in the ensemble that placed in the Gulf Coast competition. Then, to college on a full scholarship as a Voice major where she was the choir president while the choir toured the West Coast, in which she was featured singing Walter Hawkins' "He's All I Need."
Deirdre's steps were ordered to Chicago where she was divinely tutored and developed into a mature minister of the gift within her for a period of about 20 years. This is when her gifts began to go to a new and higher level in which she began to get songs through her experiences and dreams.
One evening while combing her daughter's hair, frustration of dealing with children under five started to grip the atmosphere. Before that could set in, Deirdre experienced the truth of the scripture that says "...open your mouth and I'll fill it." This event birthed the title song of her latest project "I Want To Make It To Glory!" This is just one of the several experiences that Deirdre's songs represent for her, which anoints the words of her songs to destory the burdens of the hearers.
Deirdre's music and ministry style has been recognized by many as life changing and something you will never forget! It is Deirdre's heart's desire that her music minister to the heart of those who listen to bind up the brokenhearted and that restoration flow throughout the world!
